The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment is developing a new 10-year water plan for Katherine (2026–2036). A draft plan has been released for a 4-week public consultation period where you can have your say.
WMB at the Top End Native Eco-Fair
The Weed Management Branch (WMB) reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the Territory's landscapes at the Top End Native Eco-Fair, held at Jingili Water Gardens on the 23 August 2025. A participant at the event since 2021, the WMB continues to champion informed weed management across the Northern Territory.

Thanks to recent legislative changes which allow for water notices to be published online, the Water Resources Division launched the water notices portal.
Water Resources had a water planning focus in the 2010s
Five water allocation plans were declared in the decade: Western Davenport Water Control District Water Allocation Plan 2011–2021, Alice Springs Water Allocation Plan 2016–2026, Berry Springs Water Allocation Plan 2016–2026, Katherine Tindall Limestone Aquifer Water Allocation Plan 2019–2024, Oolloo Dolostone Aquifer Water Allocation Plan 2019–2020.
Priority prickle bush project launches with a BANG
The project targets prickly acacia and mesquite infestations across the NT, is funded through the Australian Government’s Supporting Communities Manage Pest Animals and Weeds Program and aims to accelerate the eradication of these high priorities weed species through coordinated efforts with landholders, ranger groups, and regional stakeholders.

On 1 and 3 October 2025, members of the Regional Weeds Working Groups (RWWG) for Alice Springs and Tennant Creek regions caught up for their annual meetings.
Recycling containers soon to become easier
Recycling beverage containers will soon become easier for Territorians, with the container deposit scheme set to expand next year to include any beverage container up to 3 litres, including wine and spirit bottles, and plain milk containers.
