Water Regulation travels to the Douglas-Daly region
Water Regulation have a yearly KPI to conduct 120 site inspections of water extraction licence holders across the Northern Territory (NT). Water regulation officers aim to attend a range of regional locations and recently attended the Douglas-Daly region which is an important agricultural precinct. Staff carried out inspections on current licence holders in the Oolloo Dolostone Water Allocation Plan area.
The Douglas-Daly region is a recognised valuable agricultural area in the NT where its rainfall and soils make it suitable for a variety of agricultural crops.
In late June water regulation officers attended the Douglas-Daly region to carry out inspections of licences in the Oolloo Dolostone Water Allocation Plan (WAP) area.
The Oolloo Dolostone WAP comprises of 44 water extraction licences and is separated in to three management zones being the Northern, Central and Southern Management zones.
Due to the vast area regulation officers attended licences in the Northern and Central zones inspecting 13 licences with differing agricultural uses such as: sandalwood plantations, mahogany plantations, irrigated cotton and fodder crops.
Water regulation officers inspected the licensed extraction points, meter readings and water use requirements. Staff met with the licence holders and property managers to discuss licensing issues relevant to their operations
