How to use the SREBA data catalogue

Watch the video or read below on how to use the data catalogue.

How to search for an item

There are 2 ways to search for items in the data catalogue.

  • Navigate from the home page into a project domain and view all items contained.
  • Use keyword searches and apply filtering to find data and information.

Once you have found a catalogue item, you will be able to view its metadata.

Metadata

Metadata is important information that describes data and assists in making data and information discoverable and useable.

SREBA data catalogue metadata captured and published includes:

  • the date it was created
  • title
  • short description
  • status
  • custodian
  • custodian contact
  • license for use

On the metadata page, there will be a link to the item.

The link will either:

  • take you to the system where it is stored (publication location)
  • start downloading the file (data files and attachments).

How to view spatial files

The catalogue contains some spatial files that are most commonly shapefiles (Shp).

These files present information spatially using coordinates.

They can only be viewed using types of spatial software such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
