Top End Native Eco Fair
The Circular Economy team promoted the container deposit scheme at the Top End Native Eco Fair in the Jingili Water Gardens, sharing the news that the scheme has expanded from 1 July to include beverage containers up to 3 litres and now includes wine and spirit bottles and milk containers.
This follows promotion of the expanded scheme at this year’s Alice Springs Show and Royal Darwin Show.
The public had many nuanced questions about the scheme and recycling in general.
While many visitors to the stall had heard about the scheme expanding, many were informed about the range of containers eligible for refunds and were happy to learn how much simpler the scheme now is.
The team also handed out maps showing where containers can be returned and explained that it is not yet a requirement for wine and spirit bottles and milk containers to have updated labels displaying the 10-cent refund mark on the label.
Updated container labels are less of an issue now given the expanded scope of the scheme.
So, take all your empty beverage containers up to 3 litres to a collection depot for recycling.
