NT Weed ID Deck now available as a mobile app

The Northern Territory Weed ID Deck is a valuable tool that helps community members and land managers identify weeds that threaten the Northern Territory.

It focuses on priority weed species identified in the Regional Weed Management Strategies for Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs. It includes alert species that must be reported immediately if detected, along with information on a range of other weed species, identification photographs and key distinguishing features.

The Weed Management Branch has worked with a local Northern Territory business to develop a mobile app of the popular glovebox-sized Weed ID Deck. The app is based on the existing glovebox version and is available free of charge for Apple and Android devices through the Google Play and Apple App stores.

The digital version expands on the original Weed ID Deck by incorporating weed control information from the Northern Territory Weed Management Handbook. The app also features filtering options, allowing users to search by growth form or region. The app can also be used offline.

By making the Weed ID Deck available digitally, this important resource is now accessible to anyone with a smartphone, significantly increasing its reach and usability across the Territory.

The app cannot identify weeds from photographs taken by users. Instead, it provides images and information to assist with manual plant identification.

To download the app, search for ‘Weed ID Deck NT’ in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
