Lands and Planning Industry Forum – February 2026 update
The Lands and Planning Industry Forum brings together the department and industry representatives to collaborate on how to address the opportunities and challenges facing the Territory’s development sector.
The department hosted the Lands and Planning Industry Forum on 26 February 2026, bringing together senior departmental leaders and representatives from key peak industry bodies.
The Industry Forum provides an opportunity for collaboration and information-sharing on land release and planning, survey, development and building sectors in the NT.
The industry membership includes:
- Master Builders NT
- Real Estate Institute NT
- Property Council of Australia NT
- Urban Development Institute of Australia NT
- Housing Industry Association NT
- Australian Institute of Conveyancers NT
- Engineers Australia
- Surveyors Australia.
The Industry Forum in February focused on identifying shared priorities for the year ahead, which included how to strengthen partnerships between Government and industry. Some of these priorities included:
Promoting housing supply and affordability
Members recognised the need for joint and coordinated action to increase housing availability. The forum supported continued engagement with relevant NT Government agencies regarding housing investment programs, including further exploration of opportunities linked to the Commonwealth’s Housing Australia Future Fund.
Streamlining land release and development processes
The forum also agreed to further workshop efficiencies in the process leading to the titling of land and streamlining approval pathways.
The forum concluded with consensus on follow up actions to be progressed ahead of the next quarterly meeting, including a briefing on implementation of the Bringing Land to Market report, which outlined recommendations to streamline land release, approvals and titling and initiatives to meet housing demand.
As the Territory continues to grow, the Lands and Planning Industry Forum reinforces the shared commitment of industry and department to work together to support well-planned development outcomes and efficient regulatory systems.
