Gamba action program
The 2025-2026 gamba action program (GAP) has had a strong start this season, with over 2,000 bottles of 5L herbicide distributed to private landholders across the urban, rural and agricultural areas in the Darwin and Katherine regions by the end of January.
GAP has been assisting residents for 15 years now, providing free herbicide, spray equipment and weed management advice to support the control and local eradication of gamba grass.
Additional funds have been allocated to gamba grass management in the Coomalie region in 2025 with $150,000 annually for 3 years to the gamba Litchfield neighbours project. Aimed at boosting the capacity of land managers around Litchfield National Park, this program will enable sustained action and complement control efforts within the national park.
The GAP program will remain open until 1 May 2026 or until herbicide supplies have run out.
Weed officers are also distributing surveys to GAP participants to gather feedback on individual gamba management implementation and suggestions for future program improvements.
