Community rallies to clean up Alice Springs dumping site

Alice Springs community came together for an Operation: Don’t Be A Dumper clean-up day.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the Alice Springs community came together on Sunday 17 May 2026 to support Operation: Don’t Be A Dumper (DBAD).

The event removed around 5,500kg of illegally dumped waste from a hotspot along Undoolya Road.

The DBAD team, comprising staff from Environmental Regulation, Crown Lands, NT Parks, Alice Springs Town Council and Lhere Artepe Corporation, banded together to organise the event, encouraging community participation and protection of the beautiful environment around Alice Springs.

With strong community spirit on display, volunteers, council workers, and multiple representatives from government agencies worked side-by-side; further supported by the Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, Aertex Group Pty Ltd and Corrections work crews.

As a community service, the Alice Springs Town Council waived disposal fees and accepted almost 9 truckloads of illegally dumped waste. This included household and personal items, construction waste, mattresses, whitegoods, metal, electrical items, bikes and 22 tyres.

The event highlighted the ongoing impact of illegal dumping and the importance of shared responsibility in keeping Alice Springs clean.

The DBAD team would like to sincerely thank all community members, volunteers and partners who gave up their Sunday morning to lend a hand, and clean the land.

Your efforts make a real difference in restoring local areas, protecting the environment and maintaining pride in our community.

Community involvement remains essential in preventing illegal dumping. By working together, we can continue to reduce waste impacts and keep Alice Springs clean for everyone.
