A new chairperson has been appointed for the Northern Territory Planning Commission.

Based in Alice Springs, Mr Mark Coffey PSM brings extensive leadership experience and a strong understanding of how policy delivers real outcomes for Territorians.

He most recently served as Managing Director of a government consultancy company and has previously held senior leadership roles with NT Police, the Office of Northern Australia, and the Alice Springs Town Council.

He has a thorough understanding of government operations and a clear insight into how policy decisions can be translated into effective outcomes on the ground.

In addition to Mr Coffey, Mr Rod Applegate and Ms Dorte Ekelund were appointed as members of the NT Planning Commission.

Dr David Ritchie is stepping down after 8 years as chairperson.

Before joining the Planning Commission in 2017, Dr Ritchie had already made a significant contribution to the Northern Territory Government (NTG), holding a range of senior roles across the NTG, over many years.

He led the commission with a steady hand, guiding the commission to help shape the Territory’s land use planning direction and ensuring planning processes are respectful and community aligned.

Dr Ritchie’s commitment to the public service and to the NT community more broadly has been vital in ensuring planning processes are efficient, fair, and considerate of all stakeholders.

Staff recently came together for a farewell morning tea to celebrate Dr Ritchie’s leadership and service and wish him every success and happiness in the next chapter of his journey.

The many colleagues who gathered for his farewell were a reflection of the respect and gratitude he has earned over the years.
