Know Your Bore

Office of Water Security has launched "Know Your Bore", aimed at supporting rural residents and pastoralists who depend on bore water for their daily living and operations.

It includes a series of easy-to-understand factsheets designed to help property owners care for their bores and keep them working properly. These factsheets cover important topics such as:

  • how to keep your bore in good working condition
  • how to monitor and test your water for safety
  • permits, approvals, and what’s required
  • what you need to know to build a bore

Bore water is a vital resource in many rural and pastoral areas, often serving as the main source for irrigation and livestock. However, without understanding the bore’s condition and water quality, users may face challenges in maintaining reliable access to this essential supply.

Know Your Bore is focused on build confidence and foster a shared understanding among rural residents and pastoralists by improving the knowledge and management of bore water resources.

By enhancing awareness and practical management skills, Know Your Bore ensures that people living and working on rural properties can sustainably operate with confidence, securing their livelihoods for the future.
