Bushfires and Your Health short course - enrol now!
Dry season smoke is very common in the Top End and can be difficult to avoid.
Breathing smoke in high amounts, or over a long time, is not good for your health. The smoke particles can irritate your lungs and make you cough or make your asthma much worse.
The smoke particles are very small and can cross over into your blood stream affecting many different body systems, like your heart, blood vessels and even your brain and bones. It's important to reduce how much smoke you breathe.
The University of Tasmania has developed a free online short course called ‘Bushfires and Your Health’. This course will help you understand how bushfires and bushfire smoke affect your health – and, most importantly, what you can do about it. You can learn at your own pace, which includes signing in and picking up where you left off at a time that suits you.
Enrolments are now open for courses starting 1 September 2025 and 27 October 2025.
Interested? Sign up at the University of Tasmania website.
The course is free and 100% online.
