Water sampling the springs of the Roper River catchment
During September 2024, water resources were back sampling water across the Roper River catchment.
Water resource officers visited 16 sites, including the iconic thermal springs of Bitter, Rainbow and Fig Tree. The sampling program had 5 sites specifically added to investigate the Elsey Creek, which joins the Roper River upstream of the Elsey Homestead.
Locals expressed their appreciation, sharing their personal stories and concerns about the water quality and flows. Results of previous investigation sampling and results have been made available through the regulatory statement on the website.
Routine monitoring is carried out at least annually to ensure that water quality is understood and maintained and that any changes are promptly investigated. This provides safeguards to ensure that water resources continue to be a source of enjoyment and pride for everyone who values them.
