4D Gamba Fire Table on display
The Gamba Fire Mitigation team recently showcased the 4D Gamba Fire table at Girraween Primary School’s annual Field Day. The 4D Gamba Fire table brings alive an exciting, animated version of Charles Darwin University’s online fire behaviour simulation. The model is designed to improve landholder knowledge of bushfire planning and mitigation strategies, and create a better understanding of the changing bushfire landscape due to invasive species such as gamba grass.
When gamba grass is present, firebreaks are less effective and bushfires are much more aggressive. The model allows users to test a range of management options and implications, with the goal of mitigating bushfire impact in rural residential areas. Students, parents and teachers loved the model, which is available to try out online at FireSim (cdu.edu.au)
