NR Maps Metrics

Update to the back-end of NR Maps to begin tracking metrics. This includes:

  • server and database performance
  • user session count (anonymous)
  • users logged in (NTG account)
  • which data layers were viewed, searched, and/or downloaded
  • which links were clicked on
  • how many PDF maps were generated.

These updates are to improve understanding of how NR Maps is used and to inform reasonable development of the application. Metrics are only available to the Geospatial Services Branch.

Carbon Emissions Estimate Calculator app

  • Available from the NR Maps home screen under ‘NR Maps purpose-built apps (Desktop only)’
  • The NT Government online carbon emissions estimate calculator is a free online spatial tool that allows you to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions that may be associated with clearing of native vegetation.
  • This tool has been developed to enable the estimation of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with the clearing of an area of native vegetation in the Northern Territory (NT).

New map screen tools

Selected features export (DENR data only):

  • select features from the active layer at any map scale
  • click on the tool to open, select the data format and then click Export
  • export will be greyed out if the selected data is not managed by DENR
  • to check custodian details, right mouse click on the layer and view the metadata record.

New redline mark-up tools

Upload your own data:

  • click the tool and browse to the file location to load
  • select features to change the colour settings
  • the geometry of an uploaded file may be edited (e.g. move vertices).

Create new dataset using text coordinates

  • This new tool provides the user with an accurate drawing tool using coordinates (e.g. create a new point).
  • Enter the location: 132.1234 -15.1234 (use a space between the x and y coordinates).
  • Click on the drawing tool Save and call this New Point 1.

Update geometry using text coordinates

  • Select an existing drawing feature and edit the coordinates for (e.g. how to move the location of New Point 1).
  • Select Point X and click on the Update drawing tool; Enter new coordinates 132.234 -15.234.

New folder structure

  • The layers in NR Maps have grown considerably so the main folders have been reorganised to make navigation easier.
  • To assist searching for a layer, enter a name in the Filter, located at the top of the layers panel. Eg bore. Only layers with the name bore will be displayed. Click the 'X' to go back to all layers.

Spatial data layers

  • Folder Biodiversity > previously called Flora and Fauna.
  • Folder Environment > Layer Waste Discharge Sites has been added to this new folder.
  • Folder Fire > Subfolder Bushfires NT\Administrative Boundaries > layer Fire Protection Zones. Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs zone boundaries amended.
  • New subfolder North Australian Fire Information (NAFI) contains layers Hotspots and Fire Scars. The source is a web map service so the layers can only be viewed and cannot be made active.
  • New subfolder NT Fire and Rescue Service. The Emergency Response Areas (ERA) have moved to this subfolder.
  • Folder Maps > The layer Graticule GDA94 has moved to this folder. Turn on to display Latitude and Longitude graticules. These will display on a map printed from NR Maps.
  • Dates have been added to the layer All Map Products and included in the Search function.
  • Folder Vegetation > Subfolder Mangroves > Layer Mangroves 250k added.
  • Folder Water > Subfolder Bores > Bores were previously split into groups Current and Historical. An additional layer called Bores All has been reinstated.
  • Subfolder Water Management: Layers Water management zones and Protection areas were amended.
  • Folder Land Administration > Subfolder Topographic map index has moved to this folder.
  • Subfolder Cadastre: new layer Aboriginal Land. This is a subset of the cadastre layer based on Owner Category.
  • Subfolder Administrative boundaries: new layers Aboriginal land council and Electoral Regions.
  • Folder Geoscience and Mining > The subfolders Geoscience (previously called Geology and Geophyics) and Titles Register have moved to this folder.

Know your bore mobile tool

The exclusive Know you bore mobile client tool is now live.

You can view the tool on either on your tablet/iPad or mobile phone. You can even add it to your devices 'Home' screen, to make it 'look' like an app!

Know your bore tool

  • This new web tool displays bores that may be at risk of running dry in the 2019 dry season in the Darwin rural area. All bores in the NT are searchable and contain a link to the bore report.
  • Water Resources folder > Bores > Bores with Dry Risk: this new layer displays bores that may be at risk of running dry in the 2019 dry season in the Darwin rural area.
  • Water Resources folder > Bores > NT Bores: details from the Bores with Dry Risk layer were added to the NT Bores layer, including; Dry Risk Rating, Bore Risk Class, Date of assessment 8 April 2019, Web link for more information, Name of the Darwin Rural groundwater resource.

  • All layer folders are now unticked. Open the folder and tick a layer – ascending folders will automatically turn on. Cadastre layers and Basemaps Coastline remain turned on.
