Groote Archipelago Threatened Species Management Plan
The Groote Archipelago Threatened Species Management Plan 2019-2028, aims to identify the actions needed to ensure threatened species in Groote Eylandt are protected for future generations.
Using traditional ecological knowledge and the best available science, the Plan will serve as an invaluable resource for Aboriginal rangers and other managers. It will help to guide decision making and actions to preserve the Groote Archipelago as an important refuge for northern Australian threatened species into the future.
For the Anindilyakwa Land Council and the Traditional Owners, this plan and its implementation represent:
- an important element in the future management of their country
- its interaction with other land uses and
- the opportunities that arise from maintaining these unique natural values.
The Plan was developed in collaboration with the Anindilyakwa Traditional Owners, Northern Territory Government, Australian Government, and GEMCO.
